Rebuilding and Refurbishment
You may be surprised to learn that the grandma's old piano can be restored for a fraction of the cost of a new piano. Further, restoration will increase the instrument's value and leave it in top condition to be passed on generation to generation!
I am comfortable with most any piano and have access to appropriate restoration supplies and materials.
Generally speaking, refurbishing a piano is a process of the bare minimum to restore proper function, tone, and touch. Conversely, a restoration involves replacing the action, strings, and total refinishing of the case. In some cases major elements are also replaced such as soundboards, pin blocks, and bridges.
I have access to genuine Steinway parts, Renner (used in most European pianos), Yamaha, Kawai, and WNG advanced composite parts among other supplies. Taking your budget and needs into account I can transform your piano back into a well playing instrument again.
Transportation to and from my shop is provided and a loaner piano may be available upon request.
To get started, book an evaluation. From then we can talk about your needs and budget as well as the pianos after restoration value.
Museum Grade Conservation
In addition to restoration I offer conservation services. Conservation is the painstaking process of preserving the piano as a historical object and every original part is painstakingly consolidated and preserved. In some cases strings, hammer felt, and damper felt are replaced. This work is often reserved for historical keyboards say 1700 - 1850, or pianos that are historically significant.

Restoration of a 1923 A.B. Chase grand piano.
This piano was a family heirloom and was in untouched original condition. The finish has significant yellowing and was worn out. In addition the piano wans't playing well and the bass was nearly non-existent. The piano has a complete rebuild including refinishing, new action parts, new strings, new pinblock, and a new bench. The original soundboard had good crown and was repaired; however, the bridges were recapped with hard rock maple. You can see this work in the last few pictures.
Check out the pictures comparing the worn down hammers with the new hammers, the new bridge caps, and the A.B. Chase decals which were scanned and reproduced. The piano sounds great and is ready for many more years of service!
